The Big Move

After our amazing trip to Kruger, we got the rather unwelcome surprise of returning home to find our house had been broken into! Needless to say, we quickly arranged for our agent to start the process of selling. We’d budgeted about 3 to 6 months – plenty of time, we thought – to sort out the move, the immigration paperwork, furniture storage, and everything else.

Things moved surprisingly fast! Our agent called within a few days to schedule some viewings, and she suggested a quick meeting with a young couple who were interested in the house. “No problem!” we said. The following Monday, after their visit, the house sold!

Suddenly, we were in a bit of a scramble – our relaxed timeframe had vanished. Panic set in… briefly! We immediately started digging into the immigration requirements for my life partner, since I was emigrating and did not require any paperwork. Luckily, he’d been granted an extended visa on a previous trip, so that part was sorted.

I then spent ages researching international removal companies, reading reviews, and weighing up our options. We needed to find one that could store our furniture for at least three to six months before shipping it all to Portugal!

After all the frantic organization, we decided to stash our belongings in storage and then, feeling incredibly generous, we headed back to Kruger to visit our friends. And, well, you know how it goes… a few days in Kruger, and… tragedy struck!
