Decision to Immigrate

My partner and I decided to escape for a fantastic holiday visiting friends in Kruger National Park – it was brilliant! But while we were there, I got a rather surprising call from a house agent, asking if we were thinking of selling our place. I politely explained we were on holiday and asked her to give me a call when we were back home.

Back home, my partner and I started chatting about the whole selling thing, but where would we even go? Honestly, South Africa had been feeling a little overwhelming lately. There were constant protests, a lot of damage to infrastructure, and we even had an attempted hijacking! And to top it off, while we were enjoying the wildlife in Kruger, we got a break-in. It just felt like things were spiraling, especially living in a housing estate surrounded by electrified fencing – crime was really on the rise.

We decided we wanted to shake things up, and so we took the plunge and decided to completely change our lives! We headed to Portugal, a country we’d only ever visited briefly and knew absolutely nothing about. (My parents, however, have lived there for years, and we’d visited them almost every other year, so at least we had a friendly face to start with!). We figured a big change was exactly what we needed. It was exciting and a little nerve-wracking, of course – after all, we both only really knew South Africa! We’re hoping for an adventure!
